Booner

"Already, it affects you, <player_name>. You should leave at once before it overcomes you entirely!"

You "Before what overcomes me? Why is there no snow on the ground? And why is there a big forest growing underground? Actually, come to think of it, I don't really care about any of these things."

"Me neither. That's the problem, <player_name>! The longer we stay in these unnatural woods, the more disinterested in everything we become. It's the falling snow. It's laced with an evil powder called The Chill of Indifference. I've already forgotten to even care why Lord Pyrrus created this forest in the first place, or why he chose the name 'Corkle Woods' of all things."

You "You're really boring me. Wait, no, I didn't mean that! I do care. Is that a statue of little Sapphira I see over there? Oh, whatever, who cares. Uh-oh, I did it again! I care! I do!"

"Please help us, <player_name>. All of us who live here are slowly being drained of empathy. You've got to cleanse the snow of this evil powder, and rid us all of the cold indifference we're suffering from. Maybe if you can learn why Lord Pyrrus chose to lace the snow in the first place, then you'd be able to figure out a way to put a stop to it. What do you say, <player_name>? Will you help us?"

You "I guess. Whatever. Fine. Or, I mean, yes. Yes, I will help!"

"Try talking to Moodrah. But be careful! Moodrah has been more affected by the magic snow than most, and is likely to be uncooperative. Give her this bouquet of roses. It might soften her up a bit, and help spark her interest in the world again."

You "Okay. Later, Booner."

"I don't really care."

You received Booner's Bouquet!

Moodrah

"Nasty, ugly, flowers. Hideous colors! And that sweet smell. Hurts my nose! You there. Yes, you! <player_name>, is it? <player_name>, let's stomp on every last one of these rotten flowers!"

You "Um. Or, we could not? They're actually pretty. Tell you what. I have a bouquet of roses you might like better, and then maybe you could help me figure out why Pyrrus put a forest in his castle, and then blanketed the whole place with 'The Chill of Indifference?'"

"I hate roses. Nasty, ugly, things. I'm going to stomp on them. Bring me some flowers that I can actually appreciate, and then I'll tell you what I know about these woods."

You "Deal. So you want me to bring you...ugly flowers?"

"Am I talking to myself here? Flesh Eating Gardenias of course! I want 10 of them, straight off the scaly wrists of the Wraiths and Banshees who wear them. You're still standing there. Go!"

You "All right, all right. I'm going. Bye."

"Get going!"

You lost 1x Booner's Bouquet.

Moodrah

Moodrah: "Well? Have you got 10 Flesh Eating Gardenias to place upon my supple wrists?"

You "Yes. Now please tell me why Pyrrus put this weird forest in the middle of his realm."

Moodrah: "These woods are a replica of the place where his sister died. When Pyrrus was just a boy, he and little Sapphira had only each other. This was during the Shadow Years. Bad times. Everyone starving..."

You "Go on..."

Moodrah: "The land had gone foul, and so had all the people in it. The two children wandered endlessly, looking for food like everyone else, till one day they came to a scraggly forest known as the Corkle Woods."

You "You have my attention."

Moodrah: "Some folks say it was a lime, but I heard tell it was a Tropapple. The little boy spied a single Tropapple, fresh and ripe as can be, dangling from a high branch. He plucked it, and gave it to his sister. Now here's where accounts go funny. Folks in Ardent, especially the hunters, like to say it was the piece of fruit that killed poor little Sapphira, that the Tropapple was filled with rot and disease. Well, of course the hunters would say that!"

You "I don't understand. Why would the hunters say that if it isn't true?"

Moodrah: "Because they're ashamed of what their predecessors did! Back then, in the Shadow Years, long before there was an Ardent, the hunters were all a mangy pack of starving scoundrels. And they didn't think twice about attacking two helpless little children for food."

You "That's terrible! And if I weren't currently suffering from the Chill of Indifference, I'd have said that with even more feeling! Please go on."

Moodrah: "I can't, because that's all I really know: that hunters attacked those two kids, and that only the little boy made it back out of Corkle Woods. He's Lord Pyrrus now, but back then, his given name was Sebastian. Sapphira and Sebastian. There's an old bandit living around here who mentioned that little tidbit to me. Roderick is mildly deranged, but you could try talking to him for more info. Look in Bally Meath, and you'll find him."

You "Like I care. I mean, thanks. Thanks? Yes, thanks. Thanks Moodrah."

Moodrah: "Like I care!"

You lost 10x Flesh Eating Gardenia's.

Roderick

"I gave up thieving years ago. So whatever it is you're here about, I didn't do it! The fleas have me minding my manners. Good day to you."

You "The fleas? No, I don't want to know. Roderick, what can you tell me about how Sapphira died? I want to rid this place of the evil powder in the snow, and it has everything to do with Pyrrus' little sister, I think."

"Oh, I hid the Mimic Weevils. I'm an ex-bandit, so I know how valuable those bugs are. Wouldn't want the little fellas getting into the wrong hands! Those Mimic Weevils can replay everything they saw and heard about what happened to those two kids in the forest that day."

You "Roderick. I want your Weevils. The fleas told you to mind your manners remember? So the polite thing to do would be to tell me where you hid them! What do you say?"

"The fleas concur. They want me to help you. Only problem is, I hid the Weevils so well that I don't remember where I put them exactly. There's three. And each one is in its own special box in one of the towns, one Weevil per town, but which town? That is the question! Come back when you've found them, <player_name>, because my Mimic Weevils won't talk to anyone, but me. Good day!"

You "I'll find the Weevils."

"You must!"

Returning to Roderick

"Have you found my little fellas? Come to daddy, come to daddy!"

You "I found the Weevils, Roderick. Now please ask the Mimic Weevils what they saw and heard in the woods the day the hunters attacked little Sapphira and Sebastian for a piece of fruit."

"RUN! RUN, screams the little boy to his sister. Arrows fly at them. The girl is terrified and crying. She clutches her brother's hand, and begs him not to let go of her. Dirty men and women surround them. RUN, RUN, the boy screams again to her. But the little girl only clings to her brother more. He lets go of her hand."

You "And then what happened?"

"The boy pushes his sister away. He yells for her to run and hide, and to not look back. An arrow strikes him. He throws himself at the dirty men and women. They engulf him, and hurt him. The girl runs. She tumbles into a thicket near the river. A huntress chases her. The boy sees the huntress release an arrow, but can see nothing after that. His eyes have closed."

You "Go on, go on."

"When the boy comes to on the ground, he is alone. He charges into the thicket where he last saw his sister go, but finds only a bloodstained arrow. He screams Sapphira's name over and over. He sees her cloak caught on a branch in the middle of the river. The boy howls louder, for he knows his sister could not swim, and has been swallowed by the river."

You "Oh, my. What a sad story. I wish I felt worse than I do. Evil, evil, snow!"

"The fleas want me to help you with that, too. Take this pile of gold, and give it to a greedy Kobold named Stravinsky. As you have seen, Lord Pyrrus has replicated the river his sister drowned in, it is called Sorrow Creek. At the rivers head, just north of here is where you'll find Stravinsky. Tell him what you need. He'll do anything for gold."

You "Wow thanks, Roderick. How much is a pile of gold?"

"It's a lot, but it's for Stravinsky, if you spend it on something else that is your own fault."

You "Noted! Thanks again."

"The fleas say to have safe travels."

You lost 1x Glenquin Mimic Weevil. You lost 1x Tralee Mimic Weevil. You lost 1x Moyacomb Mimic Weevil. Gained 75 gold.

Stravinsky

"I'm getting awfully tired of you Ardent folk clomping around Lord Pyrrus' special river! Oh, who am I kidding. I could care less. What do you want?"

You "To put a stop to this evil snow. Roderick said you could help me with that. There's a big, fat, pile of gold in it for you, if you do."

"Well, cough it up then. You're in luck. I just so happened to be here the other day when the Stone Lord howled at the river, and summoned the conjurer to lessen his torment. Still waiting for that gold you promised. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting."

You "Here you go."

"Saw the whole thing, I did. Lord Pyrrus was staring at that branch in the middle of the river there. He let out a mighty roar, and then commanded Mabina to conjure up some kind of deadening tonic for him. Haven't seen him here since, but Mabina's tonic still falls from the sky. She's a nasty old thing, she is. Kill her, and the evil powder in the snow will purify, it will still fall, but it won't be toxic. She's holed up in The Acropolis of Crooked Trees. Best know your history, though!"

You "Acropolis of Crooked Trees? Where is that? And trivia?"

"I'm sure you have seen the Acropolis, it is the large stone structure just to the North. And by trivia I mean Mabina's Guards have a penchant for trivia. Especially Timmer. Course they'll probably just kill you regardless. Who knows? And who cares! I don't. Bye, <player_name>!"

You "Later."

"Who cares."

You lose 75 gold.

Timmer

"Mabina is in one of her moods today. The Stone Lord doesn't come round here much anymore, and the more he doesn't, the more she takes it out on me."

You "That sounds pretty rough."

"It is! I've had it with her! My loyalty towards her grows thin, give me one good piece of trivia about Lord Pyrrus, and I'll tell you a secret about Mabina."

1 You "Pyrrus is one of the Brood of Seven."

"Already knew that. No good."

2 You "Pyrrus uses the power of the Crystal Lady in the Crystal Spire to bring his gargoyles to life."

"Of course. I worked in the crystal mines myself for a few years."

3 You "Pyrrus used to love a woman named Imogen, but she tragically passed away."

"*Cough* *Cough*. Yea okay, 'passed away.' Either way, I already knew that."

4 You "Pyrrus' real name when he was a boy was Sebastian."

"Sebastian? Say, that's a good tidbit! Here's something for you in return. Mabina has the bloodstained arrow that little Sebastian found on the riverbank the day his sister drowned."

You "Interesting. But how does that help me defeat Mabina right now?"

"It doesn't. But this will. I am Mabina's elevator. I throw the good people up, and the bad people down. And like I said, I've had it with her! So up you go!"

You "Thanks. Do I need to-"

5 You "Pyrrus is a really good cook, as you can tell by his oven mitts."

"I doubt that is true, and if the wrong ears heard that you'd be strung up."

6 You "I don't care about any of this. See you later."

"Then get outta here!"

Booner

"You did it, <player_name>! Already, I feel the chill of indifference beginning to thaw around here. Were you able to figure out why Lord Pyrrus wanted such a thing in the first place?"

You "Yes. He has recreated the woods where his sister died. Hunters attacked them when they were little, and his sister drowned in the river. But the memories were hurting Lord Pyrrus so much whenever he came here, that he wanted something to dull the pain. So he ordered Mabina to create a numbing tonic, and that is the evil powder she put in the snow."

"I... I... I CARE ABOUT THAT! I am caring again!"

You "There was a bloodstained arrow that Pyrrus, when he was little Sebastian, found on the banks of the river where his sister died. It was in Mabina's possession, and I have it now. There's something written on the arrow, but it's in a language I've never seen before. Any idea what it says?"

"I'm just a tree, <player_name>, and not a big reader. Farewell!"

You "Okay, I'll keep asking around. I feel like it's important. Thanks, Booner."

"Thank you for everything."
